Omar is the founder of Blockcast, a privacy-oriented hybrid content delivery and broadcasting network for scaling and personalizing OpenCaching and video streaming in remote networks. He is a 3rd generation telecom engineer over 15 years into the mission of democratizing broadband. He received his B.Sc Hons, and M.Eng from UC Berkeley, working with the TIER lab advised by Prof Eric Brewer, founder of Inktomi and creator of the open edge cache, Apache Traffic Server. After commercializing TIER’s community cellular research at Endaga and its acquisition by Internet.org, Omar authored the open-source distributed packet core, Magma, and led projects for the low-cost microcell initiative OpenCellular, and Meta’s Space Comms team.
