Omar is the founder of Blockcast, a privacy-oriented hybrid content delivery and broadcasting network ‎for scaling and personalizing OpenCaching and video streaming in remote networks. He is a 3rd ‎generation telecom engineer over 15 years into the mission of democratizing broadband. He received ‎his B.Sc Hons, and M.Eng from UC Berkeley, working with the TIER lab advised by Prof Eric Brewer, ‎founder of Inktomi and creator of the open edge cache, Apache Traffic Server. After commercializing ‎TIER’s community cellular research at Endaga and its acquisition by Internet.org, Omar authored the ‎open-source distributed packet core, Magma, and led projects for the low-cost microcell initiative ‎OpenCellular, and Meta’s Space Comms team.‎
